It’s Sunday, nonexistent audience! You excited? I am! So in an act of pure patriotism and generosity to nobody at all, aka our readership, here’s another helping of gently used, unaltered from its original form, cartoon madness for you to theoretically enjoy if you or anyone else were real. I need convincing, so please for the love of Cholula sauce (delicious!) say something! I mean here, not out loud to your spouse or service animal! They don’t care about you, never have! I do… So why not thank me for that and anything else you feel comfortable with? I deserve it!
I’ll shut up now and turn you over to the me of 1/17/2017, an idiot with a dying blog, much like today! But just you watch… Big things could be in the offing! I kid you not! Here I am:
Quick and dirty, with less bloviation than is the norm with these. But yeah, it’s yet another 1940’s Warner Bros. gem, starring our (my) favorite duck. Why mess with a formula that works?
So, Daffy Dilly, from 1948, the creamy center of WB’s ‘toon-crafting sweet spot. This one isn’t, in fact, one of the very very best (in my opinion), but it’s still darn good. Oh, and because I can’t help but yak about such details, this is a Chuck Jones ‘toon. We’ve beaten that horse to death several dozen times before.
The premise? Plot? Setup? OK, if you insist. Daffy’s a salesman, of gag materials like joy buzzers. He hears about a rich guy that badly needs cheering up. A butler comes between our drake and potential riches. Hilarity ensues.
Interesting for deviates like me is that this is perhaps the first instance of Daffy’s greed becoming a driving force. Yet at the same time there’s a brief throwback moment, with Daffy doing the “Hoo hoo, hoo hoo!!!” wacko schtick that originally defined his character.
Nothing else to point out, really. Maybe the series of blackout gags were a precursor to the Road Runner ‘toons that would start to appear the next year, but maybe not. It’s just a cartoon. Not an epoch-defining work of art like some of Daffy’s other starring vehicles. But enjoy anyway!
Oh, and if anyone ever has a request, a ‘toon or character they’d like to see featured… by all means let me know.
Me of today again! Hi! As usual I had the choice of a parts 1, 2 and three deal or a nerd talking as the full cartoon plays deal. I chose the latter in this case, to make it easier for you, the loyal yet dead quiet, in fact purely theoretical audience for my drivel and whatever else leaks out… In other words you only gotta click on one thing, the price being enduring the talking nerd as you focus hard on the ‘toon. You’ve already endured me, so the nerd should be easy! Pretend this post was twice as long if it’ll help!
Postulated ladies and imaginary gentlemen, I give you a nerd talking about a cartoon, in this case, Daffy Dilly, from the heart of my favorite era for all things, 1948! Enjoy! No spitting please!
